PETS DIE IN HOUSE FIRE
A man had to be restrained from running into his burning
home
to rescue his three pet dogs which died in the inferno.
The
home owner, who has not been named, was alerted to the blaze by neighbours
shouting at him as smoke billowed from the Keadby property in Chesswick Crescent.
The man, who
was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital suffering minor burns and smoke
inhalation.
Neighbour David
Glover said he had been sitting in his garden when a passer-by drew his
attention to the smoke.
Mr Glover and
neighbour John Todd dashed across the road to investigate.
Mr Glover said:
"We noticed there were a few flames in the kitchen and alerted the owner
who was in the back room and unaware of the fire.
"We got
him out and alerted the fire brigade but by then the flames had taken hold.
"We had to
physically restrain him from going back inside to get the dogs out.
"It's
amazing how there can be so much devastation done in a short space of
time," he added.
Two appliances,
one from Scunthorpe and one from Crowle, attended the fire, which ripped through
the property.
Station Officer
Howard Bevan said the owner informed fire crews there were no other persons in
the semi-detached house but his three dogs were trapped inside.
"The front
of the house was completely on fire and flames were roaring out of the kitchen
window."
He said the
heat from blaze had been so intense, the uPVC window frames on the front of the
property had begun to melt. "It was one of the hottest house fires I have
attended in a long while. The heat was so strong the double glazed windows were
very close to collapsing."
Investigations
were taking place to determine the cause of the blaze.
However it was not being treated as suspicious.
