The picture below was taken around 1880, the picture shows possibly an annual event that took place in Crowle, very little information has been found at present.
The picture was taken from Cross street looking down North street, in the far distance the Red Lion public house can be seen and to the left is the Oswald public house. In the middle to the rear is the Steam driven pump with 8 firefighters lead by a further 10 on foot.
Since the 1880's very little has changed in this particular area of Crowle the buildings are still presently standing many have been upgraded for domestic accommodation. __________________________________________________ Photographs kindly donated by Mick & Shirley Hill
