DRIVING AND CREW COMPARTMENT
The cab is an all steel construction and is suitably insulated on walls, roof
and floor. The large area
windscreen and deep side frames allow an unobstructed view of the fire ground
and also for
manoeuvring in difficult conditions. It has ample floor area to permit the crew
to don protective clothing.
The vehicle fire fighting controls and instrumentation are positioned so as to
be most convenient for
the driver, the instruments are positioned in front and around the steering
column, while the controls
are positioned and mounted between driver and officer.
GEARBOX AND PTO
The gearbox is the Allison World Series five speed automatic gearbox complete
with integral hydraulic
retarder and Chelsea type 275 PTO. The PTO engagement is via the push button
controls mounted
on the bonnet. An interlock device is fitted which only allows the engine speed
control at the rear to
operate when the gear selection is in neutral.
